Manchester United’s attempts to sign Crystal Palace center defender Marc Guehi, 23, have been severely thwarted.

Football Insider reports that Manchester United is eager to have Marc Guehi join their team. The Red Devils have recently taken notice of the 23-year-old center back, who has been performing admirably for Crystal Palace. However, it seems improbable that they will be able to sign him during the winter transfer window.

Guehi progressed through Chelsea’s ranks and joined their first team in the winter of 2020. After being promoted to the first team, the England international did not actually see much action in the early going. Additionally, he had loan stints at Swansea City.

He was reportedly paid £20 million to join Crystal Palace in the summer of 2021 after failing to make an impression on the Chelsea first team. Since then, the 23-year-old, who makes £50,000 a week, has only gotten better. Lately, he has been playing in a very special way.

He has made nine appearances in the current campaign and has been a pillar of the defense. Manchester United have taken notice of his outstanding achievements. The Red Devils’ struggles in the 2023–2024 season can be largely attributed to the back line’s critical players suffering from multiple injuries.

Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane have both already sustained injuries in the current campaign. Erik ten Hag is eager to add a fresh center-back to the mix during the winter transfer window as a result. The 23-year-old’s performances have the Dutch manager highly impressed, and he would love to have him in his squad.

However, it appears from the story that the Eagles are not amenable to a winter transfer. Since the England international is a vital member of their first team, they will probably reject any deal for him. Even so, the defender who earns £50,000 a week is eager to remain with the team until the summer of 2024.

With an eye toward starting for England at the European Championship in Germany the following summer, he wants to play regular first-team games and is not willing to take any chances. Under Gareth Southgate, Guehi has been a consistent member of the England squad and is anticipated to have a significant role in the Euros.

The source claims that the Red Devils can get his services in the summer, even though a move in the winter is doubtful. However, by holding off until the summer transfer window of 2024, other elite teams may also enter the competition to sign him.
