Many Premier League teams are still interested in acquiring Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City, including West Ham United.

According to 90 Min, Phillips was informed that he could leave City over the summer but chose to stay and compete for a spot.

After trading their key player Declan Rice, West Ham experienced a hectic summer transfer period.

Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse were two players the Hammers acquired to strengthen their midfield; the latter has excelled since leaving Southampton.

But following Rice’s exit, West Ham was also frequently linked with a bid for Kalvin Phillips.

Phillips naturally chose to stay in Manchester despite having trouble getting minutes in his first season under Pep Guardiola.

And it appears that West Ham is one of many teams keeping an eye on the midfielder’s situation after a similar start to the new season.

West Ham remain keen on Phillips

According to 90 Min, West Ham is still interested in signing Phillips, but several Premier League teams are also interested.

Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and Tottenham are among the teams monitoring his situation.

Prior to moving for £45 million to City last summer, Phillips was a star for Leeds United.

Even Jamie Carragher, back in December 2020, compared him to Paul Scholes.

Like Paul Scholes was for Manchester United, “if you are coming up against Leeds United, who are brilliant as a team, not just Kalvin Phillips, he has to be a major part of your team talk,” stated Carragher.

“You had to stop Paul Scholes pulling the strings in midfield, and that lad, that was one of the best performances I have seen from an individual this season, and if you come up against him, you have got to stop him.”

The 27-year-old had a fantastic 2021 Euros season with England, helping them get to the championship game. But he has had difficulty while playing for City thus far, and his task of getting into the team is difficult.

Rodri is undoubtedly one of the top holding midfielders in the world of football and is still an important member of Guardiola’s team.

The decision by Guardiola to start Rico Lewis in central midfield against Arsenal rather than Phillips, who is presently serving a ban for the Spaniard, was very instructive.

Although Phillips appears committed to succeeding at City, the midfielder would benefit from playing frequently prior to the Euros, and a move to the London Stadium might help him get his career back on track.
