At least it wasn’t in the league. Liverpool Women experienced their first setback of the season, ending a streak of two consecutive wins, both with clean sheets. The Reds suffered a 2-1 defeat to Leicester City in the opening match of the Continental Cup group stage.

Liverpool conceded the opening goal in the 34th minute from a set piece. However, they managed to level the score just before half-time, as Natasha Flint received a pass from Mia Enderby and, after a deft touch to gain control, slotted it past the goalkeeper.

Hoping for a change in momentum after the late first-half goal, the Reds were left disappointed as the game resumed. Just five minutes into the second half, Cain converted to secure the winning goal.

The other two teams in Group B are Everton and Manchester City. City also defeated Everton by the same scoreline. This means that despite the initial loss, Liverpool still has a chance to stage a comeback.
