Holly Morgan, a central defender and captain who played a significant role in LCFC Women’s growth and ascent to the Barclays Women’s Super League, will continue this series.

Morgan was a crucial component of the Club over the 17 years she spent playing for the Foxes as it rose from amateur football to the top level of professional competition.

At the age of 11, after a tryout at the Center of Excellence, she joined City’s women, before they were professional. She advanced through the age divisions to become a defense stalwart and captain. In addition to graduating from the University of Leicester in 2015 with a Bachelor of Law degree and becoming a solicitor, Holly played a crucial part in the Academy’s structure. Since Holly’s first senior appearance in the 2009–10 campaign, she has made 294 appearances across all leagues, scoring 12 goals.

She played an important role in the squads that won the FA Women’s Midland Division 1 championship in 2014 and the FA Northern Division championship in 2018. When the team became an essential component of Leicester City Football Club two years later, she was still a key player and the team captain. The players at this stage were given full-time professional status, and the Foxes were given permission to compete in the 2020–21 Barclays Women’s Championship.

LCFC Women earned 50 points out of a possible 60 during their maiden season in the Championship, won 12 straight games, and earned promotion to the Women’s Super League by winning the second-tier title. Sadly, Holly was injured for a significant portion of that season, but as a seasoned leader, she commanded respect in the locker room the entire time.

In 2021, Holly ended her playing career. She never received a red card despite the fact that she was a defender who was constantly searching for the ball and eager to challenge. She had a strong, encouraging demeanor and earned a lot of respect as a captain. She was a motivating speaker and a great communicator for younger athletes coming up through the Academy.

After receiving her UEFA A License, she briefly served as First Team Coach before establishing her own sports agency, Morgan Sport Management, with the goal of offering a “fresh perspective to managing professional athletes.” As a side note, Holly also made it to the finals of the Alastair Campbell and Baroness Warsi-hosted Channel 4 competition series “Make Me Prime Minister” in 2022.
