Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, the Hollywood owners of Wrexham, were not impressed by veteran attacker Bill Sharp’s outburst towards the club following a contentious FA Cup replay battle.

Billy Sharp, the former forward for Sheffield United, and Wrexham chairman Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have rekindled their dramatic rivalry as they brush aside Sharp’s criticism of their team.

The long-running beef between the veteran striker and the Red Dragons began when the Blades defeated them in the FA Cup last season. The team led by Phil Parkinson forced a replay of the fourth-round match at Bramall Lane after coming dangerously close to a massive upset at the Racecourse Ground.

Sharp gave Sheffield United the lead in the 94th minute, sending the match into injury time, but Sander Berge’s goal broke Wrexham’s hearts. But after the triumph, the seasoned forward seemed anything but happy, criticizing his opponents’ actions leading up to the match.

The enraged striker specifically criticized Wrexham’s pre-match social media messages, saying to ITV Sport: “I wasn’t happy with the way they’ve been as a club before the game, eyeing up Spurs.” We are not even defeated by them.”

Later on, Sharp was also charged with being a part of an angry tunnel fight with the Wrexham players. In addition, he appeared to be aiming his emotions at the 4,700 fans who had traveled to Yorkshire on behalf of the squad.

In response to Sharp’s rant, Wrexham’s well-known owners have now responded sharply and appeared to find the ironic side of the situation. Renowned for their sardonic outlook on life, Reynolds and McElhenney appear to have found humor in Sharp’s remarks.

Following Sheffield United’s FA Cup triumph, Billy Sharp made fun of the players from Wrexham

Reynolds acknowledged, as part of the ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary series: ‘It was extremely intriguing. It was one-on-one psychology; the whole “oh we own you right now” thing. You are a championship squad that finished in second place overall.

“And this guy we just got under his skin. It was so, so wonderful to see that we got under that guy’s skin the way he did, before a laughing McElhenney interjected to quip: ‘We were living rent free in that m************* brain.”

In retrospect, Sharp—who is currently with the LA Galaxy—shared his side of the bitter conflict, saying, “I scored the goal, which knocked them out, and there was a little altercation in the changing room.” From previous experiences, I don’t particularly like their management, and I’m quite sure he doesn’t like me either.”

Regarding whether the altercation would be shown in the FX series, Sharp continued, saying, “I’ll wait and see what transpires and have my say afterwards.” We defeated them in the FA Cup, according to the record book, so they are free to make a documentary about it if they so like.
