The latest from Leicester City, as Enzo Maresca changes his mind about Yunus Akgun’s best position and reveals his favorite two Premier League teams to watch play.

Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca said in early September, following the final week of the transfer window and the additions of Yunus Akgun and Abdul Fatawu, that they would be contenders for the right flank berth.

It was the position they had both had throughout their time at Galatasaray and Sporting Lisbon, and it was the position they both preferred. However, after seeing Yunus in training for around six weeks, Maresca believes that his best role is not out wide.

Yunus came on as a substitute in center midfield against Southampton, then started there against Norwich before returning against Liverpool. Maresca saw him as a winger who could play in the middle, especially with Dennis Praet out injured, at the time, saying, “He is a winger who loves to come inside, so we can think of using him as an attacking midfielder.”

However, while Yunus played on the right as a substitute against Preston in midweek, Maresca believes the Turkish international’s best position is in the midfield. It’s where he’s provided assists for Kasey McAteer and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in recent weeks.

“He can do more,” Maresca said this week. “He is adapting very well. He gave us two assists against Liverpool and Blackburn. He arrived here not 100 per cent but now he is getting better. For sure he can give us much, much, much more, no doubt.”

“For me, he’s more an inside player than a winger. Sometimes he has to play as a winger. But for me he’s more an inside player than a winger.”

Maresca’s favorite sports teams

It’s probably not difficult to predict which other teams Maresca enjoys watching while watching City. But there is now confirmation.

While most of the games he watches are to help prepare his own squad, either by reviewing footage or by analyzing forthcoming opponents, when he does get to watch football for leisure, he prefers Brighton and his old club Manchester City. That comes as no surprise given his year working with Pep Guardiola and his 20-year acquaintance with Roberto De Zerbi.

When asked who he’s watching this week, Maresca responded, “Brighton and (Manchester) City.” I appreciate all football, but if I had to pick one, it would be Brighton and City because of the style of play they employ.
