Wrexham Football Club is owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, but Blake Lively is also involved.
“Rob and Ryan, of course, they’re supporting us,” Wrexham women’s midfielder Kim Dutton said on Tuesday’s episode of Welcome to Wrexham. “And Blake, she obviously, sponsors our team as well.” The sixth episode of the FX docuseries’ second season focused on the Wrexham women’s squad, who, as McElhenney called it, are “kicking the living s—t out of everyone.” At one point in the show, both Reynolds and McElhenney can be seen rooting for the women’s team, but after one of the players scores, Lively can be seen cheering and excitedly hugging her husband, Reynolds.
“It’s pretty special that they are supporting us in that way,” Gemma Owen, head of women’s football operations, said. “That makes us as a team and as a section feel very very much part of the club.”
Later, it was disclosed that Lively’s Betty Buzz brand was named an official Wrexham women’s team sponsor, with the emblem appearing on the players’ jerseys. “We didn’t know that there was a women’s team in Wrexham until we took stewardship of the club and recognized that there was a program that was in place,” McElhenney told the audience.

“They, just like the men, need to win the league to get promoted up and out and into the professional ranks.” The women’s squad is not paid due of the league in which they play, according to the episode. Reynolds and McElhenney, on the other hand, are optimistic that the squad will be elevated and become a semi-professional team, allowing the players to begin receiving compensation.

“Ryan and I have been discussing how we want to prioritize this program. “It hasn’t been for so many reasons in the past,” McElhenney told the players after witnessing them win a football game. “You’re all very important to us, and we want to keep supporting you.” It’s a lot simpler if you keep winning.”It also helps that the women’s squad includes Rosie Hughes, who Reynolds described as “the No. 1 goal scorer for Wrexham” overall.
Reynolds and McElhenney stated unequivocally that they want to “cultivate and grow” the women’s team, no matter how “daunting” the challenge.
