Over the years, FC Barcelona has faced a variety of rivals in La Liga, especially in El Clasicos. Sergio Ramos, a former captain of Real Madrid, is possibly the fiercest to have ever played.

A real ‘Classic’ fixture veteran, the 38-year-old has played in 45 El Clasico matches, tying Barcelona icon and Argentine hero Lionel Messi for the most appearances. Ramos has made 45 appearances and has scored 5 goals and provided 3 assists, although he has only been successful in winning 15 games.

After a brief stay at French club Paris Saint-Germain, he is again back in Spain to play for former team Sevilla. His next challenge will be FC Barcelona in La Liga, and he has lately spoken about the Catalan rivals.

Sergio Ramos says Barcelona are favorite to win both the UCL and La liga this season

The Spanish veteran discussed his goals against Barcelona in a recent interview, as reported by the Spanish publication SPORT, and how doing so always provides him with more drive:

“(This encounter) has an extra motivation because it’s against one of the best teams.”

He continued by saying that, in his perspective, Barcelona is usually favored to win major events, and this year is no exception, which is precisely why playing them would increase motivation:

“(Barcelona) are favorites for everything, in La Liga and in the Champions League, and that’s what makes a victory against them so emotionally significant.”

Last but not least, Sergio Ramos, who continues to rank among football’s top scorers among defenders, said that if he manages to score against Barcelona, he would be thrilled to do so as his first goal for Sevilla this season and already has a celebration in mind:

“I hope I could score my first goal against Barça. A goal? I have the celebration prepared, and it’s quite amusing for everyone.”

With less than four hours to go, Xavi Hernandez and his Barcelona squad will be ready to have a shot at grabbing the three points against Sevilla at the Montjuic Stadium. Forgetting the draw experienced against Mallorca, the Barca players will now need to redirect their complete attention towards Sevilla.
