The 2023–24 campaign for Stoke City hasn’t started well, and the Potters lost last night.
Stoke City headed to Bournemouth in the third round of the Carabao Cup last night. But the Premier League side eased past the Championship strugglers, scoring twice in the second half to book themselves a home game vs Liverpool in the next round.
Alex Neil’s Stoke sit in 20th place of the Championship table after what’s been a rather dire start to the season, following a busy summer transfer which saw the Potters sign 18 new players in total.
But the Scot promises improvements. After the game, he told the club:
“The effort and endeavour was there but the first goal was the most important because it changes the way the game was being played.
“You can see how hard the players are trying, I don’t think that is in question and the organisation of the team today was very good, I thought they understood their roles, carried out the gameplan well and limited a good Premier League team to very little in the game.”
Neil added:
“We are going to improve, I have no doubts about that, there are too many signs for us not to improve but we just need that sooner rather than later.”
Stoke have now lost four of their last five in all competitions, winning just one of their last seven.
