After being released on Deadline Day, Premier League winner was left without a club.
A Premier League and FA Cup champion is looking for a new club after being dismissed on transfer deadline day following only one season of a three-year contract.

Kasper Schmeichel has left Nice by mutual consent, a year after he was believed to be ‘infuriated’ with his position at the club.

Schmeichel, who won the Premier League and FA Cup with Leicester during his 11-year tenure, joined the Ligue 1 club on a free transfer last summer and appeared in 46 games across all competitions.

The brief announcement read: “OGC Nice and Kasper Schmeichel have mutually agreed to terminate the Danish international’s contract.”

“The 36-year-old goalkeeper joined Nice last summer and has made 46 appearances in all competitions for the club.” The club wishes him continued success in his career.”

His decision to accept free agency on Deadline Day comes nearly a year after French media reported that he arrived with a’very high’ body fat percentage, with previous coach Lucien Favre benching him.

The relationship was further strained when Schmeichel’s entourage apparently went above Favre to consult club owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe about starting the season opener against Toulouse.

Schmeichel has took on a new role as a pundit on Monday Night Football alongside Jamie Carragher.

The 36-year-old has already been linked with a move to Celtic as he nears the end of his career, with father Peter playing until he was 39.

Schmeichel’s friendship with Brendan Rodgers might lead to a move to Scotland following their FA Cup victory together.

Last year, the goalkeeper stated, “For me, Brendan is one of the best managers I’ve ever seen up close, so I only have good things to say about him.”

Sky Sports offers 500 live football games, as well as Cricket, Golf, F1, Boxing, NFL, NBA, and other sports on eight dedicated channels. This year, Sky Sports is the only place to see all of the action.

He then worked with two managers during his stint at Nice, where he finished ninth in the table despite signing a three-year contract.
