£100,000-a-week player rejected premier league club on transfer deadline day
According to a source, Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris rejected down a move to Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United on the final day of the summer transfer season.
Newcastle United tried to sign Hugo Lloris from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Friday, according to The Times.
Newcastle United attempted to buy Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
Newcastle has agreed to loan the £100,000-per-week (Spotrac) goalkeeper to St. James’ Park for a season.
Lloris is under contract with Tottenham until 2024.
According to The Times, there would have been no loan cost in the transaction.
Lloris turned rejected a move to Newcastle, who are competing in the UEFA Champions League this season as well as seeking to finish in the top four of the Premier League table.
We are not shocked that Lloris turned down a move to Newcastle.
At the present, Newcastle’s number one goalkeeper is Nick Pope.
That is unlikely to change in the near future.
Yes, Lloris has played in the UEFA Champions League before, but he is 36 years old now, and Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is unlikely to give him much playing time.
At Newcastle, Lloris would have been a backup goalkeeper.
There was no purpose for the goalkeeper to join the Magpies, even on loan, if he was only going to sit on the bench week after week.
