Adam Wharton, the Blackburn Rovers midfielder, appears to be the subject of much conjecture once again during the January transfer window.
The Rovers academy graduate had an outstanding debut season with the club last season and has already established himself as one of the first names on head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson’s teamsheet in 2023/24.
Not surprise, the promising young prospect sparked a lot of interest during the summer transfer season.

After the market had closed, journalist Alan Nixon revealed that Premier League clubs Wolves, Crystal Palace, and Brighton had all looked into signing the 19-year-old in the summer, only to be turned off by Blackburn’s apparent lack of interest.

If that happens, and the 19-year-old is forced to leave Ewood Park permanently, there could be a ripple effect felt at Hillsborough.

Another Blackburn midfielder, John Buckley, left the club in the last minutes of the summer transfer window, joining Sheffield Wednesday on a season-long loan.

However, as part of the agreement, Blackburn have acknowledged that they have the option to recall the midfielder in January if they so desire.

So, if they lose Wharton to a Premier League club like Manchester United in January, you get the impression they might be tempted to do so.

Bringing back Buckley would fill the vacuum left by Wharton’s departure by bringing in a player with a similar creative flair and wide passing range, who would have a point to prove after falling down the pecking order.
