Burnley manager Vincent Kompany issues a statement on Lyle Foster’s dismissal against Nottingham Forest.
Lyle Foster will be greatly missed by Burnley, but Vincent Kompany is optimistic that others will fill his shoes.

After getting dismissed for violent behavior during Monday night’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest, the striker will miss three games.

Referee Robert Jones first chose to ignore the incident, but after a VAR review, the 23-year-old was given a straight red for elbowing Ryan Yates in the midriff.

Foster will no longer play in the next league contests against Manchester United and Newcastle United, as well as the third-round Carabao Cup matchup against Salford City that comes in the between of those two games.

The Premier League’s best scorer for Burnley thus far this year, a South African, will return to action on Tuesday, October 3, when Burnley travels to Luton Town.

Kompany added, “He will be (a miss), but that’s why you create a squad. “We have guys who are capable of filling this position. We have additional participants who can contribute.

“Mike Tresor’s arrival on Monday revealed that there is yet more to come. There are guys who have not yet played who may be able to assist us. I hope they can rise to the occasion now.

We will miss Lyle, but someone else will have the chance.

Regarding the incident itself, Kompany acknowledges he may need to wrap an arm around the striker to ensure he regains his best form.

It follows the striker’s summertime disclosure of his current issues with mental health as a result of his relocation to Europe.

Regarding Foster’s dismissal, Kompany observed, “It’s a shame.

“He made a mistake, but I think you have to put the work he puts into the squad and how he’s making himself known in this league first.

I will take a break from it and make sure he is prepared for the upcoming game because he has been quite open about mental health in the past.

“He knows himself, and he’s done fantastic work for the team. My goal is to get him back to the level he had before receiving a red card.
