After Philippe Clement cut Alex Lowry from the first team for the preseason, Rangers will most likely let him leave Ibrox this summer.

As the first team began preseason on Saturday, July 6, at Auchenhowie, the Ibrox club trounced Hamilton 5-2. Three players who were linked to the exit, Cyriel Dessers, Todd Cantwell, and Scott Wright, scored goals during the match.

But there was also a second match on Friday, July 5, against Queens Park B squad, and academy star Lowry was a notable name on the roster.

According to Four Lads Had A Dream (6 July), the gifted midfielder scored in a 2-1 victory, but he was noticeably missing from the first-team friendly.

With his ability to play in midfield or as a 10 fixing a problem for the squad, Lowry has been considered by many fans to be the next great thing to come out of the academy and crack into the first team. Lowry had previously been tipped for big things at Ibrox.

But that belief is starting to fade after a string of injuries in recent years and difficulties when sent out on loan.

Rangers to sell Alex Lowry this summer

Philippe Clement is adamant he wants to rebuild his squad this summer and there seems to be no suggestion whatsoever that Lowry is in his plans for the 2024/25 campaign.

Given that the 21-year-old isn’t even training with the first team, it is certain that he will be permitted to leave. Rangers will then aim to utilize the money they get to reinvest in the first team, giving the manager additional strength.

It’s a huge shame, because there is nothing better than an academy talent coming through and making it in the first-team.

But with Ross McCausland, Robbie Fraser and Cole McKinnon all making waves, plus the talented Bailey Rice waiting in the wings, Rangers fans will know it’s not the end of the world.

Injuries have caught up in the end, and it now seems as though Clement has made the decision that Rangers’ future doesn’t include Lowry.
