Newcastle United supporters, who recently expressed that they would “absolutely love” to have Marc Guehi join them at St. James’ Park, may be thinking Anthony Gordon can perform like a magician in his role as a makeshift agent.

Guehi has become a possible summer target for Newcastle, as manager Eddie Howe is known to place a high value on defensive reinforcements. With an estimated price tag of over £60 million, the 23-year-old has had another fantastic season at the center of Crystal Palace’s defense and has drawn a lot of interest from teams throughout the Premier League.

Gordon and Guehi are both currently away with England at the European Championships, with the latter starting both group stage games against Serbia and Denmark, impressing in both. And the centre-back has also impressed compatriot Gordon, who would endorse a move to join him at Newcastle.

“He’s top, he’s such a good player and I was glad the nation got to see him shine on that stage because he’s such a lovely guy and he deserves what’s coming to him,” Gordon said in an exclusive interview with talkSPORT. “I thought he was unbelievable in that game [vs Serbia] considering his height compared to the strikers they had on.

“He won every header, he was aggressive, intercepting loads and his main strength is composure on the ball, he’s like a midfielder. So him and Stonesy [John Stones] at the back, it’s a great partnership to control a game. I haven’t actually seen the Newcastle links, but it goes without saying I’d absolutely love him to come because he’s a top player and he’d make us a better team.”

Guehi has been a regular at Palace for a number of seasons now and has enjoyed plenty of Premier League football up and down the country. And the England defender is also a fan of Newcastle by the looks of things – or at least their stadium.

Asked on the Lion’s Den which stadium he enjoyed playing in the most, Guehi said: “I’d say in the Prem, probably Newcastle, St James’ Park. It’s just really, really loud in there. The fans make it really difficult when we go there, so probably St James’ Park.”

It is unclear whether Newcastle would push forward with a move for Guehi but any attempt would likely face stiff competition. Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea have all been keeping tabs on the centre-back and a strong showing at Euro 2024 would only intensify interest.

Newcastle’s need for centre-back reinforcements comes off the back of a woeful injury crisis last season. Howe lost Fabian Schar, Dan Burn, Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles for long periods throughout the campaign, with the latter pair expected to miss a large portion of next season. There is also a desire to have more strength in depth, regardless.
