‘Talented’ 19-year-old youngster that Wolves supposedly signed up is now playing for Arsenal
Tawanda Chirewa, a gifted young man who was being pursued by both Arsenal and West Ham United, has now officially signed with Wolves.
The club made the announcement regarding the 19-year-old’s arrival from Ipswich Town yesterday.
The midfielder has joined the U21s for 2023–2024, following Matty Whittingham, who had already committed.
Chiwera really made his Ipswich first-team debut in a match against Colchester United for the EFLP Trophy in November of this year.
He was the second-youngest player to play for the club after that appearance.
Jon Hunter-Barrett, the academy manager, said of him “We’re happy to have completed it, it’s one we’ve been working on. Since he was 16 years old, we have been keeping an eye on Tawanda’s development and waiting for the ideal moment to approach him and ask for his services.
“His key qualities are his handling of the ball in tight spaces and his ability to get the team up the pitch to create and score from deep areas.”
The East Anglian Daily Times has stated that Wolves will pay Chirewa’s compensation.
He reportedly declined a new contract at Ipswich in favor of joining Wolves.

His performances for the Ipswich U23s caught the attention of the Gunners and the Hammers, both of whom wanted to sign the Shenfield-raised youngster for their academies. Chirewa – described as ‘athletic’ and ‘talented ‘ by Wolves head of UK academy recruitment Harry Hooman – will now look to make his mark with the U21s under James Collins.
