Championship side Hull City are on the verge of announcing German Tim Walter as their new boss, according to Sky Sports.

The Tigers are looking for a replacement for Liam Rosenior who left his position three weeks ago following a 1-0 defeat to Plymouth Argyle on the final day of the season. Chairman Acun Ilicali has been chasing the signature of Walter since then and it appears he may finally got his man.

The 48-year-old previously managed Hamburger SV of 2. Bundesliga in his homeland but was dismissed in February of this year following two defeats in his final five matches, despite managing them for over 100 games. He has also previously managed VFB Stuttgart for 20 outings.

Walter took over the reins at HSV in July 2021 and led the team to back-to-back third-placed finishes in the German second division in 2022 and 2023 as they endeavoured to return to the Bundesliga following their first-ever relegation in 2017/18.

Overall, he has an impressive win rate of 1.79 points per game this season. His most impressive managerial stint came when he managed FC Bayern II in the 2017-2018 season where he would take just over two points per game.

City finished in seventh position, which was classed as a successful season amongst much of the fan base. However, they won just three of their final 13 games which proved not to be enough for Rosenior to keep his position. The chairman later admitted that he wanted more attacking and free-flowing football back at the MKM Stadium.

Sky Sports senior reporter Tim Thornton has stated: “Tim Walter is close to becoming the new head coach of Championship side Hull City.

“The German is expected in the UK to finalise the deal over the weekend.”

With several first team players leaving or returning to their parent clubs, once appointed, Walter will have his work cut out to have most of his transfer work in place in time for the start of the season in August.
