Rangers star Todd Cantwell’s comments have been highlighted by Kenny Miller, who says criticism is par for the course of playing in Glasgow.

In the Daily Record [19 May], Miller acknowledged a recent series of impressive performances by Cantwell, not least his man-of-the-match display against Dundee in midweek.

The former Rangers and Celtic striker did however criticise the way the ex-Norwich man has spoken after playing well, claiming he has too much of a focus on silencing critics.

“I’m sorry, Todd, but you’re at Rangers,” Miller declared.

“That comes with the territory. When you’re on top in Glasgow, everyone loves you and you’re praised to the hilt.

“When you’re second best, the flak flies. That’s the way it is – and it’s where Rangers are right now. Whether he likes it or not, their recent form has been poor.”

Will Todd Cantwell be a key Rangers man next season?

If Rangers are to wrestle the dominance of Scotland back from Celtic next year, they simply have to get the best out of Cantwell.

The way the attacking midfielder ran the show against Dundee must have had Philippe Clement rueing the decision not to involve him in the Old Firm defeat at Celtic Park, which ultimately ended the title race.

Under contract until 2026, Cantwell’s immediate future looks to lie at Ibrox but many have questioned the relationship between he and Clement – and pundits have criticised the perceived “bratty” and sensitive nature of several Rangers players.

Kenny Miller says fan criticism is part and parcel of playing in Glasgow

When he’s on song, Cantwell looks unstoppable at this level and these are the kinds of players ability-wise that Rangers need all over the pitch and not just in certain areas.

The attitude has to be harmonious throughout the squad, though, and that gripe looks to have plagued the Gers squad and had Clement bitterly frustrated during the season – Cantwell included.
