David Moyes has made an admission about his style of football at West Ham United which has played its part in him departing the club this summer.

There has been a demand from Hammers fans for a manager who plays exciting and expansive football.

As a result, upon the expiration of his contract, Moyes will be departing the London Stadium in favour of a new coach.

Speaking to The Standard (16 May), the Hammers boss has admitted he didn’t want to take risks by playing a different style of football.

“I do see where the fans are coming from when they question the style of play. I’ve come in for criticism but I’ve always wanted to play good football. I just don’t see it’s a good idea to keep giving the ball away in your box.

“I love good football but I’m not a huge risk-taker and I don’t think I ever will be. There’s no shame in trying to make your teams strong defensively.

“There has been a lot of outside noise and maybe they’ve found some of it difficult to ignore.”

Why has David Moyes been let go by West Ham United?

There have been complaints about the style of football at the London Stadium this season despite it garnering positive results in general.

Recent form has been frustrating but the decision to let Moyes go had been made prior to the last few week’s worth of matches.

A 5-0 defeat to Chelsea, a 5-2 loss against Crystal Palace and a frustrating loss to Fulham have all happened in the past month.

This has somewhat derailed the season as now their current ninth-place finish is as good as it can get this campaign.

With this, the Hammers have opted to go forward with a new manager with them looking to see a better quality of football next season.

It appears that Julen Lopetegui is going to be the man to execute that vision [talkSPORT] although some fans have their reservations.

There is no doubt about the achievements that Moyes has had at the London Stadium but maybe a change could be beneficial to all parties.
