NEW YORK (AP) – In the first six innings of Saturday’s game against the New York Mets, Atlanta left-hander Max Fried has given up no hits, and the Braves are ahead 3-0.
Fried has walked two and struck out four batters. After retiring the first eight batters, he walked Brandon Nimmo and Tomas Nido back-to-back. In the third inning, Harrison Bader’s bloop single down the first base line that barely missed the mark gave the Mets their best chance at a hit. And he grounded out.
Out of 85 pitches, the 30-year-old Fried has thrown 56 strikes.
Since Kent Mercker’s no-hitter against the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 8, 1994, the Braves have not thrown a no-hitter. The big leagues’ fourth-longest no-hitter drought currently stands.
