West Ham relief may be short-lived for Ipswich Town: View

Other teams will still be interested in Kieran McKenna, even though West Ham appears to be planning to name a new manager.

Under Kieran McKenna, Ipswich Town has had a fantastic start to the season and is hoping to become the first team since Southampton in 2012 to earn back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League.

The Tractor Boys trailed Plymouth Argyle in League One last season, although many predicted Ipswich to finish in the top half of the division. But they have performed better than anyone could have predicted.

After Southampton dropped out of the top division the previous week, they are now in a three-way fight with Leeds United and Leicester City to finish in the automatic promotion spots. These three teams were relegated from the top flight the season before.

Championship Table (As it stands April 24th)
Team P GD Pts
1 Leicester City 44 47 94
2 Leeds United 43 43 90
3 Ipswich Town 43 32 89
4 Southampton 44 24 84
5 West Brom 44 23 72
6 Norwich City 44 16 72
7 Hull City 43 8 66
8 Coventry City 42 14 63

Ipswich’s great season has led to rumours regarding the future of the man in charge of it all in McKenna, and recent news suggests that one team may look elsewhere – but that does not mean all the interest in McKenna will waiver.

Kieran McKenna had been linked to West Ham

One of the teams that have been interested in the services of McKenna is Premier League side West Ham United.

Having won the Europa Conference League last season, their current manager David Moyes has been under intense pressure from the fanbase to be sacked, and with his contract at the London Stadium set to expire at the end of the season, it looks unlikely that it will be renewed.

According to a recent report by TeamTalk, the Hammers have been looking at bringing in McKenna as his replacement in the summer. He is said to have a £4 million release clause, which has put them on red alert.

But according to reports from The Athletic’s David Ornstein, West Ham’s primary target is that of Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim, whilst former Wolves and Spain boss Julien Lopetegui is also said to be of interest.

This will come as welcome news for Ipswich fans, who will be happy to see that the Hammers are focusing elsewhere in their manager hunt.

Kieran McKenna will have more Premier League interest

Ipswich will exhale in relief as West Ham turns to Amorim. But McKenna will continue to get interest from other teams even if West Ham is searching elsewhere for a possible new manager.

Numerous Premier League teams, including Manchester United and Liverpool, appear to be considering hiring a new manager in the summer.

In the past few weeks, McKenna has been connected to both of these positions. The Red Devils are reportedly very interested in their previous coach, who left to become manager of Ipswich, according to Football Insider.

Darragh MacAnthony, the chairman of Peterborough United, has also endorsed him as a dark horse candidate to take over at Liverpool once Jurgen Klopp steps down in the summer.

It makes sense that McKenna has drawn attention given his impressive performance in potentially leading Ipswich to back-to-back promotions.

As the 37-year-old manager of Ipswich, he averages two points per game and has a 57% win percentage, making him one of the top young managers in the making.

Therefore, even though West Ham might not target him, others still might.
