It was again another disappointing effort from Xisco Munoz’s side, who failed to put Ipswich goalkeeper Devis Vasquez to the test, with Devis Vasquez in the Wednesday goal keeping the scoreline from being considerably higher.

Bannan was conspicuously absent from the game. His absence from the squad was unexpected, and Munoz provided the following report on the 33-year-old after the game:Sheffield Wednesday's Barry Bannan update after Owls star misses out v Ipswich Town

“Something happened, and he was hurt.” I’m not sure what exactly is injured, so we’ll investigate.”

On Tuesday night, Wednesday will host fellow strugglers Middlesbrough. When asked if Bannan could play in that game, Munoz responded:

“Maybe. You know what I think of him if he can play. He’s a key player and one of those who offers something unique.”

Prior to yesterday, Bannan had started every game for Wednesday this season. However, the Scot was taken out at halftime with an ankle injury when Wednesday lost to Hull City last month; whether Bannan has the same issue is unknown.

Wednesday and Munoz are in a bad situation right now.

Yesterday’s performance was just another letdown, with the Owls producing little in offense despite having the majority of possession.

Wednesday’s lack of inventiveness in the centre of the pitch was obvious in Bannan’s absence, with Jeff Hendrick and John Buckley having modest performances in their respective debuts for the club.

It remains to be seen whether Bannan returns to the squad in midweek; Munoz will not rush Bannan back into play after the midfielder has already had injury worries this season.

Tuesday’s game against Middlesbrough begins at 8 p.m.
