In Wolves’ 32nd game against Nottingham Forest, Mario Lemina has now received eight yellow cards in the Premier League. Liam Keen has clarified what would happen if he received two more.

Alongside Joao Gomes, the Gabon international has been one of Wanderers’ greatest players this season, winning over fans with a run of warrior-like performances.
He has been Wolves’ main engine and has a strong chance of taking home the Players’ Player of the Season or fan-voted trophy at the end of the campaign.

Lemina is known for being a feisty player.

Along with being passionate and emotional, he has frequently found himself in the referee’s notebook.

At the moment, Lemina – branded ‘a little jaded’ this week by Andy Thompson – is sitting on eight yellow cards in the Premier League this season.

Some have wondered what would happen if he happened to get two yellow cards in the next game against Nottingham Forest, and journalist Liam Keen has now explained the situation…

With Wolves having played 31 games in the Premier League this season, Lemina is currently sitting on eight yellow cards.

If a player accumulates 10 yellow cards before the 32nd game (inclusive of that game), they will face a two-game suspension.

There has been speculation regarding Lemina possibly facing a three-game ban if he receives two yellow cards in the Forest match, bringing his season total to 10. However, Keen clarified that two yellow cards would only result in a one-game ban.

During the E&S podcast, Keen explained, “Earlier in the season, this happened with Lemina. He had three yellow cards and was sent off against Aston Villa, accumulating two yellow cards. The question arose whether he would face both a red card and yellow card ban combined, to which the answer was no. The two yellows leading to the red card are nullified, leaving him with the same number of yellow cards.”

Regarding Nelson Semedo, who currently has nine yellow cards, one more against Forest would trigger a two-game ban.

This clarification provides significant relief, ensuring that Lemina would not face a three-game ban if he receives two more bookings against Forest.

After the Forest game, Lemina can continue playing his normal style without worrying about the two-game ban, as it only applies to 10 bookings accumulated before (and including) the 32nd game.
