In one metric, a Crystal Palace player who has flourished this season leads the league by a wide margin.

Despite extended stretches of bad form, a number of Crystal Palace players have stood out this season for various reasons.

Eberechi Eze, who has been outstanding this season when healthy, and Michael Olise, who hasn’t yet played for Oliver Glasner, have both benefited from Eberechi Eze’s comeback.

In different roles, Chris Richards has been outstanding, and Jordan Ayew has had one of his best seasons.

Tyrick Mitchell is another player who has flourished, and data has finally recognized his excellence in one department.

Tyrick Mitchell is the Premier League’s best tackler

24-year-old full-back turned wing-back, Mitchell, has enjoyed an excellent personal season in defence and has proved a near unbeatable prospect for attackers coming up against him.

As per The Other 14 on X, the Crystal Palace player tops the charts in the Premier League for tackle success rate.

Having won 77 tackles with an impressive success rate of 85.6%, he outshines his closest competitor Ryan Yates by a significant 2.3%.

Moreover, he surpasses esteemed full-backs like Diogo Dalot, Rayan Ait-Nouri, and Destiny Udogie by a considerable margin.

In the league’s top 20, he’s accompanied by Ayew, the sole attacker on the list, showcasing his exceptional performance this season.

Despite his stellar defensive contributions, Crystal Palace might seek a replacement for him. Manager Glasner could be eyeing a left wing-back who aligns better with the current attacking responsibilities.

Recent rumors linking Lewis Hall suggest a potential challenge for Mitchell, especially considering his strengths lie in defense.

This presents a dilemma for the manager, as Mitchell, a homegrown talent, holds significant value to the club. Additionally, his defensive prowess makes him an asset not easily replaceable.

Given his stature at 5ft 8in, a potential adaptation to a left-sided center-back role could be explored, provided he’s paired with a dominant aerial defender.
