Under head coach Kieran McKenna, Ipswich Town has had a tremendous season thus far, and the Tractor Boys are still in the running for the Championship crown.

The Northern Irish coach, who took over two years ago, has done a fantastic job in his first managerial role in the men’s game at Portman Road. The East London team, who just missed out on winning League One by three points, was unexpectedly involved in another contest for the top spot this season and achieved promotion back to the Championship.

Following a 6-0 thrashing at home to relegation-threatened Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend, Ipswich moved within a point of first place which is currently occupied by Leeds United, who beat Millwall rather comfortably on Sunday.

Although Leeds and Leicester City may boast stronger squads, Ipswich Town has held its ground admirably throughout the season, a testament to McKenna’s impressive leadership since joining the club.

The standout feature of the Tractor Boys this season has been their exceptional attacking prowess. Instead of adopting a more defensive approach, the 37-year-old manager has ensured his team continues to play aggressively, making Ipswich the league’s top scorer with 80 goals in 38 games.

Furthermore, according to data from Opta released on Tuesday, Ipswich’s substitutes have collectively scored 21 goals in the Championship, surpassing all other clubs across the top four divisions of English football. Southampton closely follows in second place with 20 substitute goals.

Expanding this data to all competitions, McKenna’s team remains at the top with 23 substitute goals, joined by Liverpool and Southampton on the same tally.
