Marti Cifuentes, the manager of QPR, acknowledged that his team deserved to win on Saturday at the Stadium of Light, but he also gave Anthony Patterson credit for helping to keep the score tied.
Although Cifuentes acknowledged that his team did not generate as much as they would have liked during the match, he commended their dedication and planning in keeping Sunderland from managing to manage even one shot on goal. In the first half, Patterson denied Lukas Andersen following a careless pass from Dan Ballard. In the second half, with a few minutes remaining, Patterson produced an even stronger reflex save to deny Chris Willock. Patterson’s saves were critical in both halves of the match.
Cifuentes said his side still have a lot of work to do if they are to finish the campaign above the three relegation places but added that they can take confidence from their defensive record and structure.
