Quique Cárcel, Girona’s sporting director, has extended his contract until 2027 and talked to the media on Thursday. L’Esportiu de Catalunya recounted his thoughts, and he also described how Bueno’s move to Wolves came about.

According to the director, the La Liga club did not anticipate to split ways with the defender during the past transfer window. This is due in part to a hamstring injury he had near the conclusion of last season, which forced him to miss three months.

Cárcel stated why his side decided to sell the 24-year-old to Wolves when discussing the exits from the previous window.
“It has been a market that we knew would be complicated, because there would be important players who could not continue,” he explained.

“With Oriol Romeu, we lost a player who improved his teammates, and then there was Santi Bueno, who we didn’t think would make it due to injury.”

“However, the final offer from Wolverhampton was a big offer for a player who had arrived on a free transfer, and we understood that this was the time to do it, with the luck of being able to bring in Eric Garcia at the last minute.”

The Wolves summer signing started Uruguay’s World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Ecuador. He might make his Wolves debut when the club hosts Liverpool at Molineux on Saturday.
