In the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, Manchester United defeated Everton 2-0 at Old Trafford.

Although Sean Dyche’s team had more opportunities and was the superior team overall, they were wasteful in front of goal.

Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes both scored from penalty kicks to give the Red Devils all three points. Although his team played with good intentions, Dyche has been upset by their inability to take chances.

Ian Wright lauded Dwight McNeil on BBC Match of the Day when he was watching film of Everton’s opportunities against the Red Devils.

According to the well-known football analyst, McNeil was “very, very good” for the Toffees. The 24-year-old offensive midfielder was one of the Toffees’ top performers on the field and went close to scoring twice.

“I felt that McNeil performed admirably for Everton today. This shot is excellent. Is he going to make it? Wright remarked on Match of the Day, “Maybe make the goalie make a save, because you see is kind of lost where he is.”

Same old problems for Everton

It’s a recurring theme for the Toffees, as Gary Lineker has correctly pointed out. They haven’t won a Premier League match in 2024, and the club is struggling due to takeover concerns.

This season, McNeil has been outstanding for the Toffees. In 23 Premier League starts, he has managed two goals and five assists.

They were well-organized and continued to create opportunities against United, but they were unable to put the game away. They prevented the Red Devils from playing free-flowing football by pressing high up the pitch, but they still had to maintain composure inside the box.

Both Ben Godfrey and James Tarkowski, two of the team’s veteran players, made awkward tackles within the box, which is unacceptable at this level, and both of the lost goals came from penalties.
