Former Everton scout Bryan King believes Burnley’s chances of successfully suing the Premier League are slim.

The Daily Mail revealed on Wednesday, March 6, that the Clarets are seeking legal counsel over a lawsuit following the Toffees’ reduction of their point deduction. This news led to the verdict.
According to the publication, Burnley is upset that the Premier League did not implement the spending regulations immediately, resulting in the Clarets’ relegation in the 2021–2022 season while the Toffees were promoted.

Speaking to Goodison News, King said: “It’s very messy. I can’t see them having much chance of that to be honest, they bounced back the following season, so they earned money to go down and they earned money to come up.

“No, I don’t think they are going to get very far with that. Obviously somebody has looked at it, a lawyer perhaps, and if they’re going to sue the Premier League, then who else will sue the Premier League, whoever else went down that year? I can’t see that being stood up.”

Do Burnley have a case against Everton?

It was quite some time ago that the Clarets were demoted to the Championship, with Burnley finishing 18th in the season in question.

Everton finished four points ahead in 16th place, but would have instead been relegated had the six-point deduction been handed out back then.

Albeit the Toffees are in danger this time around as well, Burnley is back in the top flight, albeit it appears as though they will quickly fall back down.
