Everton supporters will feel “vindicated” by their triumphant appeal, given that the commission acknowledged errors occurred at the first hearing.

Financial analyst Kieran Maguire believes that the appeal ruling has brought greater “clarity” and that the first 10-point punishment was “far too harsh,” as he exclusively told Football Insider.

The Toffees were successful in their appeal last month with their initial penalty reduced down to six points.

Within the appeal verdict, the commission admitted that “legal errors” were made in the initial hearing.

The initial commission also stated that Everton had been “less than frank” in relation to what they told the Premier League about debt linked to their new stadium – that decision was overturned in the appeal.

Everton fans will love new PSR update after ‘mistake’ was exposed

Maguire explained that the first commission made a ‘mistake’ by putting too much weight on Everton not acting in good faith.

Overall, the result of the second hearing has provided a lot more clarity on what should form the basis of any charges,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

It looks as if the original commission made the mistake of spending far too much time increasing the tariff on the basis of good faith.

I have read the second commission from cover to cover and there was an awful lot of emphasis upon this.

The second commission argued the purpose of Everton’s council is to present the best case for Everton.

So I think Everton fans will feel vindicated.

I think the first punishment was far too harsh and felt it needed to be revisited and it has.
