Hull City’s big squad and depth in quality can be key to their promotion challenge according to former Tiger Danny Mills, but the ex-defender has warned that much of their hopes for securing a play-off place will hang on the crucial Easter period.

Mills, who spent a short loan period in Hull back in 2006, has pointed to another of his former clubs in Leeds United as the blueprint of how things can go badly if you struggle over the Easter period.

Owner of Hull City Acun Ilicali renders judgment on significant new £25 million European deal

With just one point separating them from West Bromwich Albion in fifth place, City is currently in the sixth and last play-off spot. However, they are only three points behind Preston North End and Norwich City. Returning to Championship action on Saturday, the trip to Deepdale marks the start of a crucial stretch of three games in a week, starting with a home match against Birmingham City on Tuesday and a home match against league leaders Leicester City the following Tuesday.

Ilicali, who purchased City from the Allam family in January 2022, saw his Tigers team play a 1-1 tie with West Brom on Saturday just after the acquisition was finalized. The team is still vying to get promoted to the Premier League.

Numerous additional productions are in the works, with “Exatlon,” a sports reality competition, likely to be the first to be adapted for a German-speaking audience. Ilicali is well-known for her work on several reality TV programs, such as Survivor, The Voice, and Masterchef. The lively Turkish owner, who was just photographed playing foot-tennis with the legendary Brazilian Ronaldinho last week, revealed that he intended to take the 43-year-old to the MKM Stadium the next month to witness Liam Rosenior’s team play.

“We are very excited for our partnership with Highlight Group with which we share the same vision and passion for sports and entertainment,” Ilicali said. “We hope to create a success story together by delivering inspiring innovative programs to our audiences in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. I am looking forward to taking it to a new level together with the Sport1 team.”

Ilicali, meantime, met with UEFA chief Aleksander Čeferin this week in the capital city of Slovenia, Ljubljana, to talk about the Tigers’ owner’s most recent endeavors. He also continued to discuss his talks to invest in another European club after selling his ownership of the Irish team Shelbourne.
