“The Club is also particularly pleased with the Appeal Board’s decision to overturn the original Commission’s finding that the Club failed to act in utmost good faith.

That decision, along with reducing the points deduction, was an incredibly important point of principle for the Club on appeal. The Club, therefore, feels vindicated in pursuing its appeal.”

For Vincent Kompany and his Burnley team, the 2023–24 campaign has been anything from a vintage one.

As if to highlight the widening disparity between the Premier League and the Championship, with just 12 games remaining, the Clarets are currently 11 points from safety and in second place.

In contrast, last season they won the English second division by a margin of 10 points over Sheffield United, who just so happens to be the only team now sitting behind them in the premier league.

The Hatters finished the previous season with 21 points more than third-placed Luton Town. This season, they are seven points higher than Burnley but still in the bottom three, only one spot ahead of them.

Burnley manager Vincent Kompany

Unless one of those footballing miracles that occur once in a generation happens to lift Burnley out of their current malaise, then they’re going to tumble straight back to where they came from at the end of the season.

This is the exact moment when the manager truly shines. Even though it seems hopeless, he is able to rally the men and turn the situation around when all seems lost.

Consider West Ham and Alan Curbishley in 2007. With nine games remaining and 10 points behind, they were able to make it through on the final day courtesy to a victory at Manchester United, as reported on the official West Ham website.

Relegation would be viewed as Kompany’s utter failure, and it seems that his employers have already decided how to proceed with him.

Vincent Kompany is not going to be fired by Burnley.

The Athletic (via Sports Mole) reports that the club does not currently have any intentions to part ways with the Belgian.

It remains to be seen whether that position will shift at the conclusion of the present campaign.
