After Xavi Hernandez stated last month that he would be leaving the team at the conclusion of the season, Barcelona is searching for a new manager.

The Blaugrana has identified a lot of prospects, but according to reports, Hansi Flick and Roberto De Zerbi are the two that stand out as the top candidates.

The fact that De Zerbi’s Brighton & Hove Albion contract has a €10 million buyout clause and expires in 2026 complicates any potential transfer for him.

However, Flick is single after being released by the German national team in September of last year, so there are no such problems with him. Nevertheless, the Catalans’ pursuit of the 58-year-old was threatened by Bayern Munich’s interest.

For Flick, Barcelona is better than Bayern Munich.
However, Hansi Flick would rather move to Barcelona in the summer than return to Bayern Munich, according to the most recent information from transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano via Caught Offside.

The six-time champion manager has been mentioned as a potential Thomas Tuchel substitute at Bayern, as the latter’s situation has not been good lately.

Romano makes it clear that Flick and the Bavarian giants have not spoken yet, and that the German tactician would rather embark on a fresh journey in Barcelona.

“We’re continuing to hear a lot of stories about managers being on the move, with Hansi Flick one of the big names being linked with both Bayern Munich and Barcelona at the moment, but what’s the reality of the situation?” Romano said.

“My understanding is that no contact has taken place with Bayern so far. The feeling is also that Flick would like to coach Barca and try an experience abroad for sure.

“But Barca will take some time before deciding on their new manager as I mentioned in the recent weeks. Flick can only wait on this one, but for sure he’d love to become the new Barcelona manager.”

As Romano makes clear, Barcelona will deliberate carefully before making their choice. However, it seems like Flick would be content to wait, saying that he would “love” to become the Catalan club’s manager.
