The five-year transfer of winger Arvin Appiah from Nottingham Forest to Almeria has been called a “fiasco.”

The Spanish team purchased the Nigel Doughty Academy alumnus from the Reds in 2019 for an estimated £8 million. However, since then, the 23-year-old has encountered some difficulties.
Since the transfer, Appiah has played on loan at Lugo, Tenerife, and Malaga. Currently, he is spending the entire season on loan with Rotherham United, where he has primarily been used as a substitute.
Almeria has acknowledged they would lose money if they eventually let Appiah go, according to Spanish daily Diario de Almeria, given the former England Under-19 international is finding it difficult to contribute in the Championship. His signing is described as “a blot on a list of successes” by them.

Appiah rose through the ranks to make eight senior appearances for Forest. As a substitute in a 3-2 League Cup loss at Burton Albion, he scored to make his debut.

When it became apparent that Almeria would be leaving the City Ground, Manchester United beat them to his signature. When the transfer was completed, they made fun of the Premier League’s top teams by posting on social media, saying things like, “Sorry, Man Utd, Arvin Appiah is red and white.” The small child was further described as a “English pearl” by the Spanish publication Marca.

Diario de Almeria, however, reports that the team feels that signing Appiah was a “fiasco.” His market value, they claim, has dropped to roughly 500,000 euros (£427,000), and they call the transfer a “ruinous operation.”
Appiah talked at the beginning of his Almeria career about how difficult it was to adjust to Spanish football. He stated: “You know there’s a lot of demand for games in the Championship, so championship football is a lot more physical than Spain.” It seems to be much more tactical and technical in Spain.

“At first, I wasn’t playing while I adjusted to the way of life, the customs, and other things. However, they were incredibly receptive to me when I started playing and saw the value I brought to the team.
