The Washington Wizards, with a 9-45 record, are in second place in the NBA, which has led to a coaching and roster shake-up with an eye toward the future.

In the nation’s capital, this season has been difficult. The Washington Wizards are sitting with the second-worst record in the NBA at 9-45.

They replaced Wes Unseld Jr. as their coach after two and a half seasons due to their lack of progress. They pushed Brian Keefe, a native of Winchester, Massachusetts.

During his pregame media availability that evening, the long-awaited opportunity for the NBA assistant coach, who has been in the league since 2007, already includes coaching against the Boston Celtics, of whom he said he was “a huge fan” growing up.

The hosts, who are 26-3 at TD Garden, were on the verge of being upset by Keefe and the Wizards on the parquet floor. Washington, who scored at least 35 points in three of the four quarters in a 133-129 loss, came into the game averaging 114.5 points.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Wizards have signed former Celtic Justin Champagnie to a 10-day contract as they continue to experiment with their roster with an eye toward the future.

After training camp with the Miami Heat, the six-foot-six wing averaged 22.3 points and 8.9 rebounds per game for the Sioux Falls Skyforce, their G League affiliate, this season.

The Brooklyn, New York native played in two games with the Celtics after joining them late in the 2022–2023 season, averaging 2.5 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 11.5 minutes per game.
