Before Everton’s appeal decision is rendered, Simon Jordan highlights their “bigger concern.”

And, worryingly so, the expectation is that not all will be good.

Having started things off with last night’s abysmal showing against Crystal Palace, it has hardly set a good precedent for the news they are expected to hear at some point in the next few days regarding both their ongoing appeal and the impending takeover.

Regarding the latter, it truly feels like there is no outcome which can benefit the Toffees due to the controversial and ambiguous nature of 777 Partners.

However, with their appeal, there is hope that some form of remuneration could reignite their campaign. Simon Jordan, however, fears the worst.

What Simon Jordan said about Everton’s appeal

Speaking live on talkSPORT earlier this morning (20/02, 10:30 am), the former Palace chairman was cutthroat in his analysis of Everton’s fortunes for the coming week.

That is, despite arguing that the only way is up for the Toffees, given the ten-point deduction has already been administered. They can only gain more points, or stay the same.

However, the precedent a success in this appeal would set for their second alleged breach would be transformative.

Jordan claimed: ‘That they’re going to be sanctioned further in this instance for this appeal, i.e. you’ve made an appeal so we’re going to give you a bigger punishment. It only gets better or stays the same.

‘The bigger concern for Everton hasn’t got to be this appeal, it’s got to be what happens next because there’s more coming down the track for them and I fail to understand how, if they were to maintain the sanction, or even if they were to reduce it by two points and they get done again for the same offence, I thought if you were a recidivist you got a bigger punishment.

‘If you go to prison for robbery and you come out, I’m not suggesting Everton are robbers, but I’m saying if you commit a crime, come out of prison and do the same crime again you tend to get a bigger sentence. So I wouldn’t be too optimistic for that.

‘The bottom line is that it can only get better for Everton this week in the short-term, because if the football leverage and the football pressure is brought to bear in the independent panel that must have had good reasons in their mind to award ten points, unless they were doing it to make a point and they were always going to reduce it on appeal.’

Everton need some kind of boost after last night’s performance

Any kind of points boost would be greatly appreciated, as recent showings have suggested they are unlikely to gain many more on the pitch.

Last night marked a golden opportunity to turn over a relegation rival under a floodlit Goodison Park, against a side missing a permanent manager and three key men.

However, Sean Dyche’s setup was far too passive, and it was only with 15 minutes left that the hosts actually felt like they started pushing forward.

With a string of crucial home games coming up against sides in and around them, they must find a way to sort out their form on Merseyside when facing teams they should be beating.

Otherwise, it could be that form at Goodison Park which finally condemns them to the drop.
