Perhaps the least entertaining NBA All-Star Game ever was held in 2024. The carefree display did not impress anyone, but on social media, a few Boston Celtics reporters received the worst criticism.

Bob Ryan of the Boston Globe begged Adam Silver to take action about the poor exhibition, referring to the All-Star Game as a “disgrace” to his sport.

Ryan wrote on X, “Once again, these NBA stars are showing no respect for the game.” “It’s just another 3-point farce and Dunkarama. Nobody had a hand in their face. I will monitor TCM’s progress. I’ll see you in the next year. What a time waster. Adam, you have to take action. It reflects poorly on your sport.”

Jay King of The Athletic, the man they call “the kid,” sounded exhausted and kept things brief and sweet after spending Saturday night of All-Star Weekend griping about Anthony Edwards’ embarrassing Skills Competition performance.

“Honestly what is the point of this nonsense,” remarked King.

All-Star Weekend a disappointment overall but not terrible for Boston Celtics stars

2024 NBA All-Star Game

There were not a lot of highlights from All-Star Weekend, but the Celtics were part of a few of them.

Jaylen Brown’s Slam Dunk Contest tribute to Terrence Clarke further immortalized the former Kentucky Wildcat and Boston native. Jayson Tatum was an All-Star starter for the second straight year.

There were a number of high-scoring tandems in the Eastern Conference overall, but the Western Conference had an odd dynamic in which no two teammates appeared to have played together in the NBA before.

You can’t really learn anything from the game. Definitely not worth the entertainment value, that much is certain. The only true basis for moving forward is the realization that the previous All-Star Weekend format has outlived its usefulness and that this event must adapt in one manner or another.
