Celtic make their return to league action this weekend and hope to record a ninth win in ten matches across all competitions when Kilmarnock come to town.

Events elsewhere tonight could signify that the Bhoys kick-off on Saturday in second place; nevertheless, they will have the chance to ensure they end the day top of the Scottish Premiership by securing three points.

Brendan Rodgers will be glad to know that his options at left-back have opened up ahead of their latest encounter, given that Greg Taylor will be in contention following his recovery from a calf strain.

Whether he starts or Alexandro Bernabei continues in his place is likely to be a main talking point over the next few days amid the latter’s improvement in performance.

The Bhoys will also need to decide on their tactical structure, which took a slight alteration last weekend as Rodgers opted for a front-two of Kyogo Furuhashi and Adam Idah, leaving Paulo Bernardo on the bench.

Kilmarnock have been tricky opponents this season, proving their threat against the league holders by recording two victories against Celtic at Rugby Park.

In the reverse fixture at Parkhead, strikes from Reo Hatate, Luis Palma and Greg Taylor put the seal on a 3-1 triumph at home, providing a blueprint for Saturday’s contest in front of a sold-out audience.

Celtic’s Brendan Rodgers is looking for revenge this Saturday

Rodgers has taken on Derek McInnes many times in his two spells in Scotland and will know the 52-year-old’s sides aren’t afraid of physical battle.

Nevertheless, the Irishman is keen for Celtic to let their football do the talking in a must-win affair when examining the context of the title race.

Speaking to Celtic TV, Rodgers stated: “We played very well in the home game, and we’re looking forward to being home, having been away now the last week or so, but at Rugby Park we certainly weren’t so good.

“So, we have to make up for that hopefully with a good performance and win at the weekend.”

Celtic cannot afford to drop points against Kilmarnock

As far as second chances go, Celtic have used them up following numerous instances of dropped points in winnable matches during the Scottish Premiership campaign.

Picking up a victory is absolutely crucial this weekend to continue the Bhoys’ recent momentum, alongside giving themselves the potential to see out the week at the top of the pile.

Goal difference could also play a part in the destination of this year’s title, and should Celtic establish an early lead, there may be an opening to try and make a positive dent within that.
