Alan Shearer thinks Nottingham Forest were somewhat unlucky not to be awarded a penalty against Newcastle last night.

The pundit was speaking on Match of the Day.

So, what has Shearer said about Forest and the key incident that seemingly decided the contest? Let’s take a closer look…

What Alan Shearer said about key Nottingham Forest decision

Well, Shearer won’t be bothered in the slightest of course but he has at least defended Forest after Newcastle robbed the Reds.

The game hinged on the decision by the match officials not to give Taiwo Awoniyi a penalty in the second half.

After going beyond Martin Dubravka, the Newcastle goalkeeper seemingly lifted his arm to foul the Forest striker but nothing was given.

Anthony Taylor was pretty dreadful throughout the contest and it was no surprise that he didn’t point to the spot.

Shearer can see why Forest were incensed, however, and believes Newcastle got away with one.

He told Match of the Day: “If that was the other way round, I’d be screaming for the penalty.

“I understand why Nottingham Forest fans will feel robbed. Because I do think that’s a penalty.”

Shearer is right but it doesn’t help Forest

In our view, perhaps the EFL isn’t quite so bad after all! Seriously, what is the point of the Premier League anymore?

With all the technology in place, how did nobody either on the pitch at the City Ground or in Stockley Park spot that this was a clear foul?

Frankly, it’s bordering on pathetic and dare we say that had the same foul been made on Callum Wilson on the other end, a penalty would have been given!

It’s nice of Shearer to pop his black and white tinted glasses off for a moment and fight Forest’s corner – although it doesn’t help the Reds get three points that were probably deserved.

It’s frankly becoming unwatchable in the Premier League and Forest must be due about six decisions in their favour in the coming weeks!
