The Scottish Women’s Premier League Player of the Month for January is Rachel Rowe, a forward with Rangers Women.

After a string of impressive performances, Jo Potter’s team had a fantastic month. The club made the announcement of the award on their official website on February 10th.

With victories in all four of their games in three separate competitions, the 31-year-old attacker had an incredible month as they kicked off the new year in grand fashion.

Rowe, a forward from Reading, was Potter’s third acquisition when he signed with the team only last summer. The forward has already had an effect, particularly in January.

“It feels good, I think you get credited for something but the bigger picture is that we have had a good month as a club so credit to the girls as well for this,” she remarked in an interview with Rangers’ website on February 9.

“The most important thing, in my opinion, is that we haven’t lost in any of the league’s competitions, which is clearly fantastic.

“It is what you want to be doing isn’t it, is staying consistent. We have done that off the back of the Christmas break and got better and better as the month has gone on.”

It had been a superb January for the Light Blues women, where they’ve scored a whopping 27 goals including a 12-0 cup win at Inverness City and a 10-0 win over Dundee United in the League and Rowe has certainly played a huge part.

The Wales international played an influential part with the Gers progressing to the next round of the Scottish Cup to start 2024, scoring twice and providing an assist in a convincing win in the highlands.

A player-of-the-match performance was to follow for the 31-year-old as Rangers booked their place in the Sky Sports Cup final with an Old Firm victory over Celtic.

Rowe then followed that up by becoming the difference maker in the final game of the month with two goals in the 2-1 victory over Aberdeen and it is certainly a well-deserved award for Rowe in what’s been a month of tremendous progress.

And that progress is rapidly continuing into February after their 9-0 win over Dundee United and a 1-0 win over Hearts on Wednesday (7 February).

Not only are the Light Blues excelling in attack but they have proven unstoppable in defence and it is why they sit six points clear of Celtic at the top of the SWPL.

If Philippe Clement continues to progress at the Men’s level, where he has won 19 of his 23 games thus far and is now battling Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title, then everything will work out well for the Rangers teams.

Rowe has shown to be an excellent acquisition for Potter, and the 31-year-old forward will undoubtedly play a significant role in whatever victories they experience by season’s end.

In other Rangers news, following a disagreement during the team’s game against Aberdeen at Ibrox, Kris Boyd and Chris Sutton got into a heated argument live on the radio.
