Since coming to East Yorkshire, the star of Morocco’s international team has already made quite an impression.

Anass Zaroury’s desire to play football was the driving force behind Burnley head coach Vincent Kompany’s decision to approve the Moroccan’s release to Hull City.

Zaroury, a 23-year-old, entered the game on Saturday after becoming the Tigers’ most notable addition during a successful transfer window that also saw them acquire Ryan Giles, Billy Sharp, and Fabio Carvalho.

The winger kicked off City’s 1-0 victory over Millwall, and it was his initial shot that struck the bar and fell into Jaden Philogene’s path, who scored the game-winning goal at the MKM Stadium.

Zaroury participated in the Clarets’ 3-1 loss to champions Manchester City on Wednesday night. However, since he was instrumental in Kompany’s team’s promotion last season, Zaroury’s opportunities have been limited, and he has expressed his desire to go on and join City.

At the beginning of the transfer window, City had placed an offer for Zaroury’s Turf Moor teammate Manuel Benson; but, Zaroury was always their priority aim, and they eventually acquired him on deadline day. Meanwhile, Connor Roberts signed with Leeds United, the Tigers’ rivals for promotion; Kompany provided an explanation for the departures of both players.

Burnley, currently second-from-bottom in the Premier League, bolstered their ranks before the window closed, signing Maxime Esteve, Lorenz Assignon and David Fofana.

When pressed on the Clarets’ end to the window, Kompany said: “The three in? You saw what they did against Fulham.“As for the outgoings, it’s about balance. There’s a lot of players that want game time, who need game time and it’s always about finding the balance to make sure you don’t leave yourself short but at the same time we have a duty of care as well if a player needs to play, we have to give them the opportunity.

“We also need players that are 100 per cent focused on the task at hand and that’s a little bit what we did.”
