Reynolds has told the ‘Yours, Mine, Away Podcast’ of life at Wrexham: “I say this without any spin. It’s the greatest experience of my life and it’s filled with all kinds of weird and unexpected horrors but it’s the greatest. It’s just being part of something and the fact that Rob and I were welcomed in by these unblinking and uncynical arms is something I will never forget. It’s part of my DNA now.
What I think I love most is when you go to the stadium, the stadium now has 12,400 people in it, with the temporary Kop and I recognise a lot of them. If you saw the amount of emails and texts I wake up to every day that are just about Wrexham business, it just never ends. It’s incredibly stressful.
But we are constantly talking about the staff, ways to improve, ways to grow this club, ways to connect the club with the community even more. So when I walk in the dressing room, I’m a little geeked out too. If that was a drug, we’d all be a mess.”
He added on the thrill of being at the game that saw Wrexham confirm their promotion back into the EFL, with the National League title secured in record-breaking style: “Rob described it best. It’s literally like our soul left our body in that moment when everybody just started to flood onto the pitch. I don’t think I’ve ever felt anything like that.”
Reynolds and McElhenney are hoping to have more cause for celebration in 2024. Wrexham are riding high in the League Two table, with three automatic promotion places up for grabs, and are determined to offer a positive response to an uncharacteristic blip that has delivered three successive defeats in all competitions.
