Crystal Palace handed boost amid Marc Guehi injury update

Earlier today, it was reported that those at Selhurst Park were optimistic over Guehi’s injury and now those hopes have been backed up, according to reports.

Now, according to the Daily Mail, Palace could have Guehi back in what is said to be a ‘maximum’ of three weeks.

The centre half has undergone internal and external examination and from these, there is confidence that he’s not suffered serious damage to his knee.

The injury is believed to be a hyper-extended knee which does require a period of rehabilitation, but it’s a positive given the initial fears.

In his absence, Roy Hodgson will be looking for James Tomkins or Chris Richards to step up into his position.

Hodgson needs to pick Chris Richards as Guhei’s replacement

With Guehi set to miss a hefty chunk of games, Hodgson will need to decide on his replacement. While Tomkins seems more likely – given the decisions that Hodgson often makes – Richards needs to be chosen.

Richards is a far better choice than the 34-year-old Tomkins for multiple reasons, but most notably he is a more talented footballer.

The American is a centre-half by trade and giving him the chance to play in his favoured position could be a terrific decision. He could also be a long-term replacement for Guehi if the £50k-a-week English defender is to leave this summer.
