Although the new manager Gary O’Neil played Bentley in the Carabao Cup, he kept Jose Sa as his number one, and the shot-stopper is now ready to push his claim for the position.

Bentley declared, “I still have a thing to prove. I came here with a point to prove.

“I come here to prove myself; I don’t work to put pressure on others or make up figures. I come here to play every day.

“I’ve got the munchies, and last year’s taste of Premier League football only made me hungrier.

“I will make an effort to work harder and perform better than before to force my way into the manager’s consideration as much as I can, in the hopes that when he decides I’m in the team, it will be my jersey to keep.

“I have the utmost respect and admiration for him and the work he has accomplished since arriving.

He wants to keep the clothing and doesn’t want me to get it, but I’m sure he’d say the same thing.

“That’s the constructive rivalry we have. We get along great, but we always push each other since we all want the top shirt.

Tom King, a seasoned backup goalkeeper, joined Wolves in the summer, while Neil Cutler, who had been Tony Roberts’ coach before he moved for AC Milan, took over as goalkeeping coach.

Bentley believes that the goalkeeping department’s support from a number of young, up-and-coming shot-stoppers and a wealth of academy coaches is helping the team advance.

“We’re working really hard, and Tony would have said the same thing before he left.

“Everything is done with the same intention of bringing us up to speed, making us fitter, and improving us.

“We push each other daily, work really hard, and leave no stone unturned.

We also get along well as a group, which is a nice perk because it fosters a positive work environment.
