Cauley Woodrow said that just before he scored the winning goal for Luton in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday, he felt his hand “crack” after colliding with James Tarkowski.

The former Fulham striker scored the game’s winning goal in the 96th minute for Rob Edwards’ team, securing the Hatters’ second victory at Goodison Park this year and securing a trip to the next round.

Jack Harrison equalized in the second half, following an own goal by Vitaliy Mykolenko earlier in the game. The tremendous celebrations that followed Woodrow’s victory would have helped to lessen the pain of a possible fractured hand.

The 29-year-old was involved in a collision with Tarkowski ten minutes before netting and admitted the incident left him in a ‘bit of shock’.

‘James Tarkowski fell on me accidentally and I felt it crack so I was in a bit of shock for a while,’ he said. ‘It was a tough game and was like a basketball match at the end. I don’t really remember much about my goal. It just fell to me and I managed to tap it in.’

Woodrow only had two goals this season after scoring against Fulham in the League Cup in August.

In the Premier League, Luton and Everton are separated by just one point. Throughout the afternoon, Toffees supporters had jeered at referee Simon Hooper and ex-player Ross Barkley, but when the final whistle blew, they turned their ire inward.
The Hatters may now go forward to the following round, where they might play non-league Maidstone, who upset Championship heavyweights Ipswich with remarkable ease.

“As a player, I didn’t have many cup runs.” stated Edwards. We shall take pleasure in this, as it holds great significance and it is crucial that we savor these times.

“Hopefully, it will provide us with a positive vibe for the upcoming week.” I can’t wait to see who advances to the fifth round. We want to keep getting the results we have been getting. We are quite happy.
