Tom Holmes, the defender for Reading, is rumored to have had a physical with Luton Town in advance of his much anticipated January transfer window move to Kenilworth Road.

After rising through the ranks at the Madejski Stadium, the 23-year-old has played 129 times overall, with 12 of those appearances coming this season, and has solidified his place as a fan favorite among Berkshire’s Royals. Although Luton manager Rob Edwards first played down the rumors, a transfer for Holmes is anticipated to proceed. Last week, rumors surfaced that he and fellow Reading defender Nelson Abbey were of interest to the Hatters.

It is believed that the Hatters will attempt to loan the center half, who was absent from Saturday’s match against Port Vale—which was called off at 16 minutes due to a pitch invasion by supporters protesting their owners—back to the League One team to finish the remainder of the season. Football Insider reported earlier this week that the center half was traveling to Town for a medical.

“We have two players who had bids, and two proposals have been accepted by the club,” Royals manager Ruben Selles had stated over the weekend in reference to a potential move for the defender. We are handling the possibility of a loan return for one of them, so from a football perspective, that won’t impact us. The players must approve those suggestions in order for the club to accept them, thus it does not imply that they will depart.

“A Premier League club is one, but there are several Premier League clubs interested. Other international clubs are showing interest. It would be risky to make assumptions. Although I was not involved at first, I have been told about the deals.
