It was made public in the French media less than a week ago that Burnley was keen to sign Marseille’s Pape Gueye.

The player’s contract in the south of France is set to expire in six months, which makes him a very appealing alternative for teams in need of center-of-the-field support.

According to L’Equipe, Burnley is even better placed in this whole situation because Gueye is reportedly refusing to accept Marseille’s offers to extend his contract because he wants to be paid the same as club captain Valentin Rongier.

The Ligue 1 team is at a bit of a standstill because they are unable to do this because his significance to their plans is not the same as the French midfielder’s.

They would therefore prefer that he “leave through the front door”—that is, through a move in January—in order to prevent a scenario similar to the one that saw Boubacar Kamara depart on a free agent’s salary for Aston Villa.

Although Burnley isn’t mentioned specifically, it is mentioned that Marseille prefers to have the player join the Premier League because they are aware of the interest and financial potential there.
Vincent Kompany and the Clarets may have an easy time acquiring the midfield player, who scored for Senegal against Gambia in their 3-0 victory on Monday, as the French club has not received a response from Gueye regarding their second contract renewal offer.
