This month, Sunderland and a star player from the Premier League held “preliminary talks.”

After a wild first half of the season that saw their present squad without a goal until Nazariy Rusyn’s score on New Year’s Day, Sunderland is in serious need of a new striker.

The Black Cats welcomed Rusyn, Luis Hemir Semedo, Eliezer Mayenda and Mason Burstow to the club in the summer, none of whom have had successful starts to their stays on Wearside.

Sunderland have so far been linked with Bournemouth’s Kieffer Moore as they look to bolster their attack, with the Cherries open to loaning out the Welshman.

Moore scored 39 goals in his last 94 appearances in the Championship, but has struggled to earn himself many minutes since Bournemouth were promoted to the Premier League.

Sunderland will face stiff competition for the ‘unplayable’ 31-year-old’s signature, with the likes of Cardiff, Middlesbrough and Ipswich Town all thought to be interested.

Michael Beale’s said are said to have held talks over a potential move though, while The Northern Echo have reported that the club are now waiting on Bournemouth to make a decision over his future.

Can Sunderland really land Kieffer Moore?

In order for Kieffer Moore to secure his spot in the Wales squad before the Euro play-offs in March, both Bournemouth and Moore will be in favor of a move that ensures the striker regular first-team games.

Given that some major Championship teams already have their own offensive alternatives, Sunderland might make Moore an extremely alluring offer.

The Wearside team will probably have a difficult time beating Cardiff to his signing, though. Moore played for two seasons in Wales and experienced great success, which would entice him to rejoin his old team and his own homeland.

If Sunderland could pull it happen, Moore would be a tremendous addition, giving the Black Cats something they have sorely missed since Ross Stewart’s injury a year ago.

The fact that Moore appears to be the only goal scorer with track record that Sunderland has been connected to is troubling, though. What occurs if we choose not to sign him? Will we once again be examining inexperienced, youthful players who have made only five senior appearances?

For Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and Kristjaan Speakman, this is a critical month that could significantly impact the fans’ perceptions of them.
