Although Sheffield United is eager to capture Kasper Schmeichel this month, they are concerned the cost of the deal may be prohibitive.

While Schmeichel is currently playing football with Anderlecht in Belgium, it is believed that he is open to returning to the Premier League.

Schmeichel has apparently been identified by the Blades as a target, and they were hoping to make a deal.

The Sun claims that a deal to sign Schmeichel could now prove to be too costly, forcing the team to consider alternative possibilities.

Kasper Schmeichel too expensive for Sheffield United

According to the article, United believes that signing the Danish stopper is one of their more costly goalkeeping transactions.

That would, however, run counter to our earlier research and reporting, which indicates Schmeichel only makes roughly £4000-a-week in Belgium. Naturally, any Premier League team would have no trouble spending that kind of money.

Danny Ward is another player with ties to Leicester whom United is reportedly interested in.

The Welsh stopper is said to be on United’s list after he dropped down the Foxes’ pecking order.

Blades boss Chris Wilder is thought to be keen on a new goalkeeper to either challenge or replace Wes Foderingham. The experienced Blades number one has also yet to sign a new deal in S2.

Decisions looming for United

If the reports on Schmeichel’s wages are correct then it would seem odd we aren’t in for him and odd that he would be deemed too expensive.

Frankly, in our opinion, it’s someone like Schmeichel or nobody at all.

The idea of signing Ward is a bizarre one anyway so if we can’t land the big Dane, then it seems pointless pursuing Ward.

Chris Wilder has some big decisions to make really. Does he use a loan on a keeper and send Luke Thomas back? Or does he stick with Wes?

Time will tell, but we’ll likely find out soon enough.
