Davy Pröpper celebrated his return to the field on Sunday, after missing eleven months due to injury. The 32-year-old midfielder made an appearance as a substitute in Vitesse and VfL Bochum’s friendly game.

Pröpper, who was a player for PSV Eindhoven and Brighton & Hove Albion in the past, tore his cruciate ligament last year. Since returning to Vitesse in January 2023, the 17-time Netherlands international has missed 33 games overall.

It was with some surprise that Davy Pröpper announced his retirement from football two years ago. He sustained the terrible injury that has kept him off the field for so long just one week after he came out of retirement. Pröpper played a few minutes in Vitesse’s 2-0 friendly victory over Bochum, a team in the Bundesliga.

Vitesse could use a fit Davy Pröpper. They’re currently rock bottom of the Eredivisie table having recently sacked head coach Phillip Cocu. With just eleven points from their first 16 matches, the Arnhem-based club need to pick up some points to avoid suffering their first relegation to the second tier since the 1979/80 campaign.
